Cultural Competency, Diversity & Inclusion with Josh Blackman

Missouri Lawyers Chapters

The Missouri Fed Soc chapters are excited to provide another FREE live webinar to satisfy this year's diversity, cultural competency, and implicit bias CLE requirement. Nationally-recognized speaker Josh Blackman will address us on ABA Model Rule 8.4(g), Cultural Competency, Diversity, Inclusion, and Implicit Bias.

In August 2016, the American Bar Association (ABA) approved Model Rule of Professional Conduct 8.4(g). Under the amendment, it is misconduct for an attorney to “engage in conduct that the lawyer knows or reasonably should know is harassment or discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status or socioeconomic status in conduct related to the practice of law.”

The presentation will introduce ABA Model Rule 8.4, discuss the constitutionality, the special protection for "diversity and inclusion" , and the use of the "knowing" or "reasonably should know" standard.

Speaker:

  • Josh Blackman, Professor of Law, South Texas College of Law

Zoom Meeting ID and Password will be distributed by email the day of the event.

**Ethics/implicit bias CLE credit has been requested and is pending for this event. Earlier this month, the Missouri Supreme Court authorized that CLE courses completed during July 1 to Sept. 30 may be reported in either the current (2019-20) or next (2020-21) compliance period.**
