A Matter of Investigation: Congress’ Role in Overseeing the Executive Branch - A Conversation with General Counsels to the Speaker of the House

This event is sold out.

The Federalist Society's Capitol Hill and DC Young Lawyers Chapters invite you to join them for a luncheon at the Capitol Hill Club on April 12. The event will feature a conversation with current and former General Counsels to Speaker Johnson and Speaker McCarthy.

Congress routinely investigates the executive branch to ensure its actors are playing by the rules, but what powers does Congress have to accomplish this mission? How can Congress effectively oversee an ever-growing executive branch? What do Congressional investigations look like from the perspective of the Speaker’s office?

All this and more will be discussed by a panel of experts including Speaker Mike Johnson’s General Counsel, Ashley Callen, and former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s General Counsel, Kim Hamm, who is now a partner at Mayer Brown LLP. Judge Eleni Roumel of the United States Court of Federal Claims will moderate this event.

Featuring:

  • Ashley Callen, General Counsel, Office of Speaker Mike Johnson
  • Kimberly Hamm, Partner, Mayer Brown LLP
  • Moderator: Hon. Eleni M. Roumel, Judge, United States Court of Federal Claims
