The Presidential Toolbox: Instruments of Executive Power
Event Video
What are the legal tools available to a President to shape policy and execute the laws—and where are their limits? How do recent Supreme Court decisions affect the durability and legality of these tools?
This panel will examine the full range of presidential authorities used to direct the administrative state and implement federal law. Moving beyond the familiar debates over executive orders, the discussion will catalog and analyze the broader “toolbox” including presidential proclamations, signing statements, and memoranda and directives.
