On November 30- December 1, 1990, the Federalist Society hosted its annual National Lawyers Convention at the Hotel InterContinental in New Orleans, Louisiana., titled "Legal Systems in Transition: New Directions for Eastern Europe." The conference opened with a keynote address by Attorney General Richard Thornburgh.
