The Robert Morris Commerce & Constitution Fellowship

Overview

The Federalist Society is pleased to launch the Robert Morris Commerce & Constitution Fellowship, a one-year fellowship that places recent law school graduates in full-time, in-house counsel roles at leading companies throughout the country.  Fellows will gain valuable experience across a wide variety of legal areas, such as complex litigation, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, legal policy and reform, international trade, and commercial matters. 

The Fellowship is named for Robert Morris, a central figure in the American founding who served as one of the principal financiers of the American Revolution. A distinguished merchant and statesman, he was one of only two individuals to sign the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the United States Constitution.  His career reflects the essential connection between constitutional governance and commercial enterprise. The Fellowship honors Morris’ role in sustaining the young nation by equipping young lawyers with the real-world business insight and economic grounding needed to support a thriving system of free enterprise. 

About the Fellowship

The Robert Morris Commerce & Constitution Fellowship is designed to provide talented law school graduates with an immersive in-house experience that deepens their understanding of free market principles and equips them to be more effective in their careers across private practice, government, and business.

Fellows will engage regularly with corporate leaders, experienced in-house counsel, and outside counsel from many of the world’s top law firms, providing them with firsthand exposure to how businesses operate, make strategic decisions, and navigate complex legal and regulatory environments.  The Fellowship not only cultivates practical legal skills and broadens professional perspectives, but it also fosters a deep understanding of American free enterprise.

Term

The fellowship will run from August through July, starting in August 2027.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit a resume, transcript, brief statement of interest, writing sample, and two or more letters of recommendation.

Applications must be received no later than January 31, 2027. Applications are reviewed and offers extended on a rolling basis. All candidates will be notified by April 15, 2027.

Compensation and Benefits

Fellows who are selected by participating companies will be compensated and receive benefits determined by the participating company. 

Location

Fellows will be placed at one of the legal hub offices of the participating companies.
