Legal and Logistical Ramifications of the National Popular Vote Plan
The nation’s attention has been focused on several potential crises in the past few months: The economy. Health care. Troubled auto companies. The manner in which America addresses any one of these issues could impact the identity of the country for decades to come. Will America be a country of individual freedom and private entrepreneurship? Or will Americans rely more heavily on their government for sustenance? The issues to be decided are many and important. Why turn attention now to other, less exciting topics such as the Electoral College? Surely that discussion can be saved for another day. Or can it? The answer, unfortunately, is “no.” Americans must focus on this issue now, or they will find that they’ve missed the opportunity to influence a matter currently being considered by state legislators.
