For two decades, the FCC has been embroiled in debates about whether and how to impose net neutrality rules on Internet Service Providers (ISPs), largely driven by fears that these companies could abuse their market power to restrict speech and competition online. Meanwhile, Big Tech companies have engaged in aggressive content moderation and censorship with little response from the federal government. Commissioner Simington will discuss the legal obstacles to, and opportunities for, such a response, including whether net neutrality principles are applicable to social media.
