Digital Strategist

Position summary: The Digital Media strategist will develop and execute a strategy for using digital channels to disseminate Federalist Society online content, promote our programs, and foster the development of a more engaged online communities of law students, lawyers and law professors involved with the Society.   The strategist will collaborate with the Society’s leadership and various divisions to help develop compelling web content and execute results-driven digital marketing initiatives to reach the organization’s key audiences.   This position is ideal for a hands-on individual who can take projects from concept to implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the Federalist Society’s efforts to disseminate content online; maintain consistent communications and expand online interaction and engagement with our core audiences including via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, blog. Determine how these and other platforms can best be used to accomplish the Society’s goals.  Maintain our current audiences and expand our reach through regular posting.
  • In conjunction with the Society’s leadership, set key quarterly and yearly goals for online audience growth and engagement, and select appropriate metrics for evaluating our online influence.   Determine campaign effectiveness through testing and analysis.  Implement tools and procedures to measure our success across all programs and campaigns, including through regular reports.
  • Manage digital marketing projects from inception to completion.  Conduct coordinated marketing plans for events, event-related content,  publications, podcasts, videos, online courses and other exclusive web content.  Conduct social advertising campaigns in conjunction with PR firm.   
  • Collaborate with internal teams, devise specific strategies to explain complex legal ideas online on different platforms in an accessible way that will resonate with our core audiences; advise on what format, topics/substance, and type of messaging will resonate most on the platform we are using with the audiences we are targeting.
  • Keep up with social media trends,  identify opportunities, and continuously explore opportunities for growth.
  • Assist with obtaining feedback from users and advise each webmaster on user-experience aspects of the Society’s various websites and their design, including mobile experience.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have the demonstrated ability to manage digital marketing campaigns.  They should know how to disseminate content effectively online, including understanding different social media platforms’ and search engines’ algorithms for prioritizing content.  They should have a solid understanding of website and social platform tracking capabilities.
  • They should be able to drive timelines, to hold themselves and others accountable for deadlines, and to perform multiple tasks at once.  They should be able to prioritize many simultaneous projects and manage expectations with multiple stakeholders.
  • They must be problem-solvers who are detail-attentive, willing to take action quickly, and driven to create and innovate.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and communication skills, and a positive, team-player, attitude required.
  • They must be interested in legal ideas and able to communicate those ideas succinctly to an audience not familiar with them.
  • The candidate must have an appreciation for the role of separation of powers, federalism, limited, constitutional government, and the rule of law in protecting individual freedom.
  • 3-5+ years of online marketing and communications experience are required.  Some experience with graphic and multimedia design, marketing tools management, and analytics a plus.  Salary will be commensurate with experience.
