Seth Smitherman

Law Clerk, Supreme Court of Texas

Seth Smitherman is a recent graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and a law clerk for Justice Jimmy Blacklock of the Supreme Court of Texas.  A sixth generation Texan, he was born in College Station, Texas, received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Texas A&M University, and graduated from Texas Law in May 2022.  While at Texas Law, he served as the President of the Texas Student Chapter of the Federalist Society and as the Deputy Managing Editor of the Texas Review of Law & Politics.  His legal writing is published in the Federalist Society Blog, the Washington Examiner, the Texas Review of Law & Politics, and the New York University Journal of Law & Liberty.  He currently resides in Austin, Texas, with his wife and two sons.  After his time on the Supreme Court of Texas, he will clerk for Judge Lawrence VanDyke on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals before joining Jones Day’s Dallas office.
