Today, stories on the Politico (subscribers only) and the Daily Caller websites report on subpoenas issued by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey to Exxon and a number of conservative think tanks. The subpoenas demand the production of 40 years of records relating to global warming—which has appeared to have stalled and is now characterized in no-lose fashion as climate change. The underlying allegation of AG Healy seems to be that Exxon funded research to contradict global warming. As the Daily Caller notes, two of the subpoena recipients, Boston’s Beacon Hill Institute and Americans for Prosperity, have never received any funding from Exxon.

Exxon is fighting the subpoenas. In addition, Virgin Islands Attorney General Claude Walker withdrew his subpoena to the Competitive Enterprise Institute after CEI aggressively moved to quash it and impose sanctions.
