On Saturday, November 12, 2022, the Professional Responsibility and Legal Education Practice Group will host a panel discussion from 11:00 until 12:30 on “The Judge’s Role in Choosing a Successor.” That topic raises some interesting issues surrounding the role of the judiciary and the separation of powers. The panelists will address such matters as the timing of a judge’s taking senior status, conditioning the taking of senior status on the confirmation of a successor, and the possible rescission of the decision to take senior status if a judge is dissatisfied by the proposed successor. Join us in the State Room, with overflow seating in the Cabinet and Senate Rooms, as Professor Josh Blackman, David Lat, Rob Luther, and Michael Fragoso apply their experience to these and other related questions.
