Justice, Utah Supreme Court

Justice John Nielsen was appointed to the Utah Supreme Court in October 2025 by Governor Spencer J. Cox. Prior to his appointment Judge John Nielsen was appointed to the Third District Court in 2024 by Governor Spencer J. Cox. He served Salt Lake, Tooele, and Summit Counties. He served as chair of the Utah Supreme Court's Appellate Representation Committee and previously served on the Evidence Rules Committee. Before his appointment as a Judge, he was a partner at the law firm of Schaerr & Jaffe. He previously was a shareholder in the law firm of Lee Nielsen. Nielsen was also an Assistant Solicitor General in the Utah Attorney General's Office, and a Deputy Utah County Attorney. He graduated magna cum laude from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in 2007.  12/25
