Dr. Brian Cox is a senior fellow at Macdonald-Laurier Institute in Canada. He taught international law at Cornell Law School from 2019 to 2026.
In 2018, he retired from the US Army after 22 years of military service, including seven years as a military lawyer. His combat deployments include Iraq from 2003-04 as a combat camera operator and Afghanistan from 2013-14 as an operational law attorney then as Chief of International and Operational Law for Regional Command-East. He also served as a military prosecutor, federal prosecutor, brigade judge advocate, administrative law attorney, legal assistance attorney, and military magistrate while he was a judge advocate. His military awards, decorations, and qualifications include the Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, Bronze Star Medal, NATO Medal, and Basic and Advanced Collateral Damage Estimation Certifications.
Dr. Cox holds a JSD degree from Cornell Law School, a master’s of journalism from Carleton University, an LLM from Queen's Law, and undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina.
