Assistant U.S. Attorney, Criminal Division, Eastern District of North Carolina

Mr. Rhoades currently serves as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Prior to joining the United States Attorney’s Office in 2018, Mr. Rhoades served as Chief Counsel to Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC). In that capacity, Mr. Rhoades advised Senator Tillis on legislative and oversight policy for the Senate Judiciary Committee and its accompanying jurisdictional matters including the 2nd amendment, immigration, tort reform, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, and criminal justice policy. Additionally, Mr. Rhoades worked on a number of Judicial and Executive Nominations, including the nomination of United States Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, dozens of circuit court judges – including Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s appointment to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals—and two Attorneys General. Before joining the Senator’s office in Washington D.C., he worked at the North Carolina General Assembly as Counsel for the Chairman of the N.C. House Judiciary Committee. Mr. Rhoades earned his J.D. from Campbell Law School and his B.A. from North Carolina State University.
