Description

Corporations are often subject to a variety of state and federal standards that govern their conduct. On the one hand, federal regulations provide predictability and uniformity, but in a “one-size-fits-all” manner. On the other hand, state regulations offer flexibility and room for experimentation, but may subject corporations to inconsistent or even incompatible standards. How do corporations balance these tradeoffs when deciding whether to advocate for state or federal regulation? And in balancing those tradeoffs, do they weigh general considerations of federalism? If not, should they?

Description

The threat of cyber attacks is becoming increasingly apparent to businesses and corporations. Both state and non-state actors have in the past year conducted significant cyber warfare campaigns against businesses, threatening fuel and food supplies, divulging personal information, and more. Delivered by the Honorable William P. Barr

Barr served as the 77th and 85th Attorney General of the United States, as well as the general counsel of Verizon Communications. He also served for nine years on Time Warner's board of directors and has extensive experience in government and private practice.
