Description
In 1964, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its opinion in New York Times v. Sullivan treating public figures to a different, more onerous standard when they were the victims of defamator falsehoods than in traditional libel cases. Recently, Justice Thomas and Justice Gorsuch have expressed skepticism about the constitutional infirmity of this decision. Our panelists will provide their perspectives on this decision and whether the Court should reconsider it.

Description
Since 2020, Florida has adopted a number of laws designed to prohibit the use of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in both primary and secondary education as well as higher education and workforce training. Legislation adopted this year (SB 266) further targets the use of DEI in higher education and is widely expected to face legal challenges. Panelists will discuss the legislation, anticipated legal challenges, and will also address developments around New College and its updated leadership and curriculum.
