In an era of unprecedented technological change and relentless innovation, what is the proper role of regulators in competition antitrust and innovation policy?  America has achieved global leadership across a wide swath of technology sectors, but at what price?  How should we balance global innovation leadership with domestic competition policy, and should our answer depend on the competition and IP policies of other countries?  If any of these questions spark your interest, you are in luck.  The 2019 National Lawyers Convention is just around the corner, beginning Thursday, November 14 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.  Over three days, the convention will feature sixteen breakout sessions sponsored by the Practice Groups, including a session titled “The Future of Telecommunications Law and Policy” featuring remarks by FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr

A panel discussion moderated by Hon. Jeffrey S. Sutton of the United States Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit will follow Commissioner Carr’s opening remarks.  Panelists include Mr. Jeffrey H. Blum, Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Government Affairs for DISH, Dr. Jeffrey A. Eisenach, Managing Director, NERA Economic Consulting, Ms. Angie Kronenberg, Chief Advocate & General Counsel, INCOMPAS, and Ms. Giulia McHenry, Acting Chief, Office of Economics and Analytics, Federal Communications Commission.  As noted above, the panelists will provide their insights on many topics, including U.S. global leadership across a wide swath of technology sectors, balancing such leadership with domestic competition policy, and the proper role of regulators in competition antitrust and innovation policy during this era of unprecedented technological change.
